Use your green-screen clip in CapCut

Bring a green-screen MP4 into your edit

video2greenscreen replaces your original video's background with solid green. The downloaded MP4 still contains that green; CapCut removes it so a new scene can show through.

If you already filmed against a green background, you can start directly in CapCut. If your clip has an ordinary background, first make a green-screen MP4 with our converter. Free clips can be up to 10 seconds and 100 MB, subject to the daily allowance.

Set up the two video layers

In CapCut Desktop, import both files. Put the background on the lower track and the green-screen clip above it. Align their timing.

Remove the green in CapCut Desktop

1. Select the green-screen clip on the upper track.
2. In the inspector, open Video, then Remove BG, then Chroma Key.
3. Enable Chroma Key and use the color picker to select the green background.
4. Adjust Strength until the green disappears. Stop before parts of the subject disappear too.
5. Check motion and edges. Adjust Shadow or edge controls if needed, then preview and export.

If the result looks wrong

The new background is not visible

Check that it is underneath the keyed clip and covers the same part of the timeline.

Parts of the subject disappear

Reduce the key strength. Green clothing or objects may need a mask or a different source clip.

The subject is already missing details in the MP4

Inspect the downloaded file before changing editor settings. Chroma key cannot restore details that background removal lost. Try a clearer, better-lit source.

Choose an export that fits your clip

Our converter prepares footage to fit within 1280 × 720 at 30 frames per second and keeps its aspect ratio. Choose a final canvas that suits your project, but remember that enlarging the clip does not add detail.

The green-screen MP4 is an intermediate file. Export the finished composition from CapCut after adding the background, captions and any other edits. Watch that exported file before sharing it.

Reuse it for another background
